C/River: Akpabuyo PDP melts into APC as Council Chairman leads defection




The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Akpabuyo LGA was depleted on Wednesday as its members, Barr Mrs Rosemary Archibong Commissioner for Commerce, Hon Edem Okokon Effiom Commissioner for Social Housing, Hon Emmanuel Bassey, the Local Government Chairman, Hon Abigail Duke, Vice Chairman, Councillors, High Chief Dr Genevieve Barnaby, DG Ayade Home Healthcare, Dr Emmanuel Duke, Special Adviser Infrastructure, State Appointees and over 15,000 others defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in the state.



The  PDP defectors were received by High Chief Edem Duke former Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Ntete Duke Caretaker State Working Committee Secretary and handed them over to the Chapter of APC in the Local Government.


Speaking at the event, the former Minister, High Chief Edem Duke said he was glad to welcome the defectors to the APC fold as they in APC  have decided to partner with Governor Ben Ayade after taking a cursory look at the economy of the state and His Excellency industrialization drive.


He maintained that Akpabuyo is APC while noting that the defectors from the PDP are joining the train to a secured and better future as there must be deliberate plan for the younger generation. 


The Local Government Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Bassey said ”I’m here with my executives, we are joining you after we took a cursory look at the Political situation of the state and we realized that there has been a gap created at the centre in the past administration which we were part of before.


“If the vision of Governor Benedict Ayade has been achieved on the deep seaport and other national sundry issues like the lost of oil Wells to Akwa Ibom State, we won’t have the economic problem we are experiencing today. We refused to play the Politics of the centre and that’s why we are very happy with the Governor's move and the administration for the visionary projects such as the deep seaport and Super Highway which cut across Akpabuyo.


“ Cross State lives on internally generated revenue. Majority of the IGR comes from few operational industries. “The state won’t be at this trouble if the right things have been done. The Governor came and started afresh. That’s why we are following him to wherever he is going to for the benefit of Akpabuyo sons and daughters. We are happy that you have decided to give us life in Cross River State.


“Those in PDP knows that they have lost their engine room. We have decided that the entire structure moves to APC and we are going to ensure that we add value to APC.


In a similar statement, Commissioner for Socal Housing, Hon Edem Okokon Effiom admonished all to come together and build a viable APC that will stand tall in Akpabuyo LGA.  He said his movement to the APC was in response of the good work his Excellency and Boss, Senator Prof Ben Ayade who has redefined governance in Cross River State since 2015.


Commissioner for Commerce, Barr Mrs Rosemary Archibong reaffirm that Akpabuyo LGA is APC and they believe in what the Governor is doing especially in human capital development which have catapulted thousands youth from the street to top salary earners.


The event witness a free Medical Outreach organized by Dr Genevieve Barnaby, Director General of Ayade Home Healthcare also the leader of Atimbo East Ward of Akpabuyo LGA.
