  “ Children of a lesser God ” is a metaphor used to describe marginalized or misunderstood people—like the deaf protagonist in Mark Medoff 's 1979 play and 1986 film.  The phrase originally comes from Alfred Tennyson 's 1859 poem Idylls of the King , where it describes a world degraded by war. It implies that if a supreme, perfect God created the privileged and the able-bodied, then those who suffer, are marginalized, or have disabilities were seemingly created by a "lesser" god. The line in Idylls of the King, reads thus: "For why is all around us here  As if some lesser god had made the world".   The Cross River State Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, Ph.D., has called for a more proactive and coordinated approach to disaster management in Cross River State following the devastating flooding along Anansa Road and other parts of the state.   The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey , has received the report and survey documentation on the University’s land boundaries, including the outcome of a recent survey exercise conducted by the Surveyor-General of Cross River State , Surv. Patrick Edet Bassey, and his technical team. Prof. Bassey received the documents during a meeting with the Surveyor-General at his office, where she was accompanied by members of the University Management Team.   Over 12 Political parties under the umbrella of the Coalition Of Opposition Political Parties (COPP) in Cross River State have rejected the proposed charges by the Cross River State Signage and Advertisement Agency (CRISSAA) for political campaign advertisements ahead of the 2027 general elections , describing the tariff as excessive,anti-democratic and unacceptable. COPP, in a statement signed by the state chairmen of the ZLP , YPP, PRP ,ACCORD, AAC, BOOT, NNPP , SDP, APM, PDP ,LP ,YP and others, said the proposed fees could make political participation inaccessible to opposition and less financially endowed candidates. According to the document in circulation cited by the coalition, presidential candidates would be required to pay 150 million, governorship candidates 100 million, senatorial candidates 50 million, House of Representative 25 million,and House of Assembly candidates 5 million for political campaign advertisements. ​The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has officially announced the commencement of its First Choice Admission Screening Exercise for the 2026/2027 academic session . The university has also unveiled 19 newly approved undergraduate academic programmes across its campuses. ​According to an official notice signed by the University Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Catherine Ndifon Osai, eligible candidates include UTME applicants who chose UNICROSS as their First Choice and scored 150 and above in the 2026 UTME.   The Cross River State representative on the board of the NDDC Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke , has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state to step up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections , warning that the party cannot afford to be complacent.
