Obong of Calabar conferred 'Ambassador of AYADECARE' by CRSHIA

The Obong of Calabar and Treaty King of the Efik Kingdom, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V has been conferred with the title 'Ambassador of the State Health Insurance Scheme' by the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency.


Speaking during the conferment, in company of the pantheon of the royal stool, recently in his Palace, Edidem Otu V expressed delight in his new title, pointing out that his throne will continue to support genuine policies, programmes and projects that would better the lots of people in the State.


The Royal Father while accepting his latest moniker, thanked the State Government for its firm determination in ensuring that access to quality and affordable health care becomes a possibility for its citizens and residents of the State alike. The monarch pledged to entreat his subjects to register for the scheme, maintaining that AYADECARE will in no small measure serve as a financial cushion for families and households, knowing the implication and cost of health care services.


He also lauded Governor Ben Ayade-led administration's proactive approach in managing the covid-19 situation in Cross River, which has kept the State among the least in terms of the prevalence of the virus.


Earlier, the Director-General of the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency, Sir Godwin Iyala stated that the choice of the Obong of Calabar was necessitated by the Royal Father's support for the scheme and effort in wooing his subjects to enrol into the profitable project.


"In my first advocacy meeting with the monarch, I was astounded by his wealth of knowledge about health insurance. He gave my team expository lectures on the workings of health insurance. And since then, he has been amazing in pursuing the course of entrenching the present administration's policy of 'health care for all' in the State," Sir Iyala expounded.


The Director-General lauded the king for his exemplary leadership and 'open arms' disposition, especially on courses that engender societal development.


In an event that coincided with an advocacy visit of health stakeholders to the Obong and his cabinet members, the CRSHIA boss said the king's taking of the covid-19 vaccine together with his chiefs, highlights exemplary leadership and would serve as a major influence on the people to follow suit.


The high point of the event was a presentation of the AYADECARE-inscribed Fez Caps by the Director-General of the State Health Insurance Agency.
