CR-SUBEB HOLDS LEADERSHIP TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR LGEA SECRETARIES AND SUBEB MANAGEMENT

The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, (CR-SUBEB) in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission has kicked-off a five-day basic education leadership training workshop for Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Secretaries and CR-SUBEB Management Staff at the Pyramid Hotel, Calabar.



Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Chairman SUBEB, Mr Victor Odo said the workshop is to ensure that basic education managers continuously use their experiences to improve the quality of basic education in the State.


According to him “the basic education system forms the formative years of the child, it is necessary that adequate attention be given to learners at that level. This is why this training is important to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance efficiency in the basic education sector.”


The Board Chairman commended UBEC for constantly providing funds for training and retraining of teachers and for supporting the growth of basic education in the State.


Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator, UBEC, Mr Francis Etuk stated that poor leadership skills by education managers will hinder the growth of education in the State.


While charging participants to actively participate in the training programme, the State Coordinator who was represented by Mr Kester Anakwe said “We need to pay keen attention to what the facilitators will do through the cause of this training. We need to imbibe these skills and make sure basic education works at every level we find ourselves by ensuring that organizational structures and systems are put in place to fully support the education system in the state.”


Mr Anakwe further stated that good leadership skills leads to increased productivity and also improves the confidence of parents and the society in the public education sector.


The training workshop which kicked off on Monday, 26th July with an opening ceremony will come to a close on Friday, 30th July, 2021.
