Pelican Stars sign 11 new players for 2021/2022 season

 



The management of Pelican Stars Female Football Club of Calabar has signed 11 new players ahead of the 2021/2022 season of the Nigeria Women Football League.


Coach of Pelican Stars, Sanusi Olaleke, who spoke after their morning training session in Calabar, said that the new players were signed to strengthen the capacity of the club.


Olaleke said that the club now has 25 experienced players, expressed optimism that they were going into the new season with the determination to win laurels.


He mentioned the new signings to include; Juliana Duru, Nnenna Okobua, Uzo Favour, Sandra Akajime, Uju Joseph, Mvogo Stella, Kelechi Ogi, Rebecca Babalola, Wakil Katon and Lola Philip.


"For we as a team, we are ready for the competition. This time around, we want to go fourth and win laurels for the state.


"With the preparation we have from the team management and the support from the state government through the Ministry of Sport, we are sure of a beautiful outing this season.


"We have quality players who have been tested in various clubs, including Mvogo Stella who came in from Cameroon and Uzo Favour who just came back from Qatar.


"These set of players cost alot and we are sure of their performance. Our target for the season is to play super 6," he said.


Super 6 comes up after the abridged league of Group A and Group B, when both Group A and Group B might have played 14 matches each, then the best three from each group will then slug it out in the Super 6.


Captain of the Club, Hodo Williams, said that the new signings will reposition the club for effective performance in the fourth coming season.


Pelican Stars has their opening match of the season on Dec. 8 against Kogi Queens in Kogi state.
