Inauguration of Factional Group Leader to CRUTECH Governing Council Illegal, Falsehood - Alumni President

The National Executive Council (NEC) of Cross River University of Technology Alumni Association led by the National President, Comrade Eyam Abeng has debunked the news making around that a factional group led by Comrade Paul Agwu was inaugurated into the University Governing Council yesterday by the Council Chairman and the State Commissioner for Education, describing it as total falsehood and illegality, urging members to remain calm, unperturbed and law abiding.

The National President made this known via a Press Release made available to our Correspondent that it is important to state clear the air after news of yesterday purported inauguration went round the media. He noted that his current four year tenure of office which started 12th December, 2019 spans to 12th December, 2023 as such he still remain the National President  of the Association.

The National President further stated that this whole drama started in 2019 during the last NEC  election of the Association when some aggrieved members who contested and lost decided to tow the part of dishonour by struggling to breed crisis, drag the Association to mud while working tirelessly to grab power  through the backdoor.

He further explained that "after some futile attempts to frustrate and distract our administration with some frivolous court summons and petitions to various authorities, they abandoned the court processes and resorted to selfhelp by regrouping and claiming victory to a purported election held at a beer parlour sometime in October, 2021, declaring themselves winners in a bid to form a parallel Executives."

Comrade Abeng equally noted that he was not surprised at their actions and desperation, giving their naive as well as shallow understanding of what an Alumni stand for. "This group of persons are naive and bereft of what an Alumni Association is about. It is quite unfortunate that some persons feel that the University Alumni should be reduced to a political and ethnic gathering for the purpose of actualizing their selfish interests.

Alumni is about value addition, pulling human and material resources together to help the University grow, while promoting it to positively to compete favourably among peers which is what my administration has been doing over the past few years. I have communicated with the University Management and leadership of the Governing Council who all said they were not aware of such inauguration."

He further admonish all peace loving members of the Association and the general public to disregard the purported executive led by Paul Agwu and  avoid having anything to do with them as it affects the Association, while legal processes are already ongoing to keep them where they belong.
