CALABAR DOYEN LIONS CLUB CORE PROJECT EXCITES COMMUNITY



 


In its avowed mandate to sustain humanitarian service, the Calabar Doyen Lions Club, Zone 5A, Region 5 of District 404A2 Nigeria on Friday, June 10, 2022 donated Hospital Equipments to the Primary Healthcare Centre, Atu, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State.


Speaking while donating the equipment, the District Governor, District 404A2 Nigeria, Lion Lynda Odu-Okpeseyi  expressed her delight and thankfulness to the Calabar Doyen Lions Club family for a job well-done and for maintaining the Healthcare Centre.



Lion Lynda Odu-Okpeseyi who was represented by the Multiple Council Chairperson Elect, Multiple District 404 Nigeria, Lion PDG Obo Edet said: "we are encouraged that the Community had given us their words from the beginning that they will protect and preserve this facility. We thank them and call for their continuous support to protect the Healthcare Centre."



"Today, more than 10 babies have been delivered in this facility, the message should be spread that the Community Healthcare Center takes delivery of children as well as carrying out COVID-19 testing and vaccination. The Community should avail themselves in all that we do," she said.


The District Governor, expressed gratitude to the founder, Lion Melvin Jones for the vision he has brought to the world, adding that making a difference entails doing just a little to effect change no matter how small.



Also speaking, the Club President, Calabar Doyen Lions Club, Lion Dominica Effiom thanked God for a successful project and ending the service year in grand style. She also thanked the members of her Club for ensuring that the Club's Core Project for 2021/2022 service year was carried out successfully.


Lion Dominica who appreciated the Community for their continuous support also encouraged the Health Workers to continuously keep the facility in good condition.


Also, the Region 5 Chairperson, Lion Sir Anthony Adeojo expressed excitement at the project implementation while also thanking the Club for their maintenance project.


"When you go round the Heath Centre, you will see that everything looks perfect. this is because of the maintenance. Last service year, the Club built this Primary Healthcare Centre and today, they are running maintenance as well as ensuring that day to day activities is being carried out," he remarked.


In an interview, the Clan Council Secretary, Efut Ekondo Clan and Secretary, Community Base Health Centre, HH Ndabu Emmanuel Duke appreciated the Club for the laudable project carried out in the last Lions year. He expressed excitement for the Club's consistent enablement in ensuring that the Health Centre is in good condition.


"I am very sure that the Club will be excited as well to see that what they have laid down is being handled with care," he said.


Highpoint of the event was the presentations of Hospital Equipments, cash to nursing mothers, among others.


Also in attendance were: the Zone 5A Chairperson, Lion Robert Antigha; the Cross River State Consultant, World Health Organization (WHO), Testa Getanew; the Chairman, Community Base Health Center, Hon. Etim Edem; the Head, PHC Atu, Mrs. Edemawan Awatt; Lions, Leos, Health Workers, Nursing mothers and many others.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements.
