C'River Entrepreneurs Shine As Special Assistant on Entrepreneurship Hosts Global Entrepreneurship Day Conference

Global Entrepreneurship Day Conference 2022, entrepreneurs of Cross River State origin, it was an impressive outing at the World Conference hosted by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurship. Experienced entrepreneurs took turns to wow conference participants with their experiences and invention.


Speaking at the conference, the Special Assistant to Governor Ayade on Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Great Ogban urged Cross River entrepreneurs to clearly define their entrepreneurship journey to the participants, adding that the theme of this year World Entrepreneurship Day is "Economic Growth, Industrialization, Job Creation and SME's as Catalysts".


Ogban noted that global entrepreneurship week is a day set aside all over the world to celebrate entrepreneurs and discuss issues that concern entrepreneurship challenges and opportunities.


The Special Assistant on Entrepreneurship Development harped on existing opportunities in Cross River State as a result of His Excellency's industrialization drive, stressing that doing business without being open to other opportunities can make business owners not progress and make more money. 


Speaking further, Mr. Ogban thanked the Governor Of Cross River State, Sen. Ben Ayade for creating a conducive environment that has promoted the rise of entrepreneurial activities in the state. Adding that the concept is to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to begin their businesses where ever they find themselves and that the conferences have mixed audiences, Students, existing entrepreneurs, and aspiring entrepreneurs.


Speaking earlier, the former gubernatorial candidate of APC Mr. Nsa Ekpenyong Asuquo, described the event as a means of encouraging young entrepreneurs to be focused on whatsoever they are doing.


Adding that entrepreneurs are unsung heroes who toil day and night to create products and services that solve our daily needs and that's the only way they can savage state economy.


 Asuquo described Cross River State as a virgin land for entrepreneurial activities because of the belief that Cross River is a civil service state. 


The business magnate noted that the Cross River State Governor has done well in industrialization while urging the next governor to put all industries to work.


Asuquo concluded by urging all Cross Riverians to be coming out for an event of this nature. Adding that this event is key for growth and human capacity building.


Noting that you can not succeed as a young person by moving around with politicians or begging politicians for money and the only way to success is by doing something with your hands... He concluded.


Expanding further on the theme of this year’s celebration “Industrialization, Job creation, and SMEs as a catalyst ”, the Director General of SMEDAN Mr. Olawale Fasany ably represented by Mr. Fortune Etu said the DG is passionate about entrepreneurship development in cross river state and Nigeria as a whole and added that small business sub-sector is a critical aspect of the economy. They are indeed the catalyst for economic growth, as small businesses collectively account for a majority of the enterprises in Nigeria and also create the highest number of jobs.


Etu opined that the most recent national MSMEs survey of 2020 revealed that there are 39.6 MSMEs, employing 62.5 million persons (80.2% of the labor force) and contributing 46.31% and 6.21% of nominal GDP and exports respectively.


He concluded that SMEDAN is determined to establish a credible database of MSMEs in Nigeria to complement the National MSMEs survey and as such the agency is currently undertaking the MSMEs mass registration project (MMRP) across the country.


He advises all MSMEs to register at www.smedanregister.ng for there are numerous benefits.


The Global Entrepreneurship conference had a plethora of guest speakers, notable among them are, Engr. Nsa Ekpenyong, Business Mogul Dr. Ikechukwu Ukwe, CEO Hogis, Victoria Ekpo, Founder Calabar Mum, Amb.
