The Youth Council of Nigeria joins the rest of the world in commemorating the 30th anniversary of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2023. This day is set aside across the globe to realize and raise the importance of press freedom. This year’s commemoration theme, Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights, signifies the enabling element of freedom of expression to enjoy and protect all other human rights.
The Youth Council Chairman Daniel Obo briefing the Press noted that today is a day where we back the value the press has brought both to our democracy and society at large.
Chairman added that young Crossrivians are aware that the young people are part and parcel of today's press and also as young Crossrivians who saw our parents that went through a lot of pains in ensuring that Nigeria of today's stance.
He added that some parents were attacked, brutalized and some families suffer a lot of trauma and some died in the process, all in the quest to birth the democracy we are enjoying today.
He further said that the youth council celebrates today and prays that government continues to give the press freedom. Freedom to say it the way it is, freedom to be fair in reportage, freedom to be just and equitable in all their delaying because the press is where the common man can go and vent his/her anger and see attention, the freedom to address some critical infrastructure challenges, age communal crisis and all of the national matters.
Youth Council Chairman reaffirms the youth's total support for press freedom while we believe that Cross River State will be an example in terms of press freedom.
He concluded that the council has confidence in the transiting Government and even the government that is coming in terms of the press having its freedom in Cross River State. They both have character and are press-friendly.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar. The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements. During the meeting, Engr. Egbe emphasized the importance of safeguarding all critical public infrastructure and ensuring close collaboration between the Ministry of Public Utilities and the NSCDC in achieving the Governor’s vision for a sustainable and secure state. He also inspected the state of the Command’s facilities and sympathized with the personnel over the recent rainstorm that destroyed parts of the roofing, leaving the building flooded and disrupting operations.
