Infrastructure: Works Commissioner restates Gov't stance on Quality Assurance

By Daniel Bebia

Cross River Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, the Hon. Pius Ankpo has restated the Governor Otu-led administration's stance on quality assurance in its desire to creating infrastructural development that  would stand the test of time.

The  Commissioner made this known while speaking to newsmen on the state's preparedness as the 2023 Carnival Calabar International Festival draws nearer.
He said carnival is about infrastructure and without infrastructure development there will be no carnival. He traced the origin of infrastructure to God adding that he created everything perfectly and beautifully well that is why people go to the forest for tourism, noting that "as co-creators, the state will toe the same line in order to give the best of infrastructure to the people."

He maintained that with the rains coming to an end, rehabilitation/construction of failed portions of roads especially in the state capital will begin, stating that it would be more of a holistic approach than selective repairs.

The Commissioner noted that in marking the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu's 100  days in office, "we had earmarked the Lawrence Bassey Avenue off Ikot Eyo road for construction," hinting that "as a man who keeps to his words, work has begun."

"To mark the Governor's 100 days in office, we stood around Effio-ete junction and told Cross Riverians that we are going to construct a road; to the glory of God the  project is ongoing. We have done one side of the lane in terms of the drainage system, I can assure you that in a month's time we will complete the project.

"Today we admire what we see. We have the power of recreation and as a responsible government, we are going to do everything humanly possible to create infrastructure for the benefits of all especially Cross Riverians."

In another development, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation by members of the public since assumption of office especially during the ongoing rehabilitation and recasting of the Watt Market drainage system.

He appealed for more support and collaboration to ensure Government property is protected and sustained.
