Anthony Ekpo Bassey is a contemporary scholar with research interests in the following areas: digital media and everyday life, media and disability, social media and disability, social media and politics, communication for development, and health communication. He has several publications in some of the world's renowned academic journals on communication and has contributed immensely to the expansion of the frontiers of knowledge through his painstaking and thoroughly researched works over the years.


Only a few hours ago today, the young scholar defended his PhD thesis with a specialization in Health Communication at the Linguistics and Communication Studies Department of the University of Calabar in Cross River State, Nigeria.


His doctoral thesis further strengthened the nexus between the fields of health and communication and made several discoveries in the nutritional lives of pregnant and lactating women with the aim of using communication as a vehicle to drive healthy developments to these categories of women in particular and society as a whole.

A seasoned journalist, Anthony Ekpo Bassey has worked in several print and broadcasting establishments in different parts of the country and has numerous media productions to his name. His hobbies include reading, traveling, swimming, cycling, and playing table tennis.


He is married to Sandra Onyung, a recent Master's degree graduate with specialization in Early Childhood Education from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements. During the meeting, Engr.   The Acting Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State, Professor Francisca Bassey, has expressed concern over the gravity of damage of the University's structures recorded in the wake of the rainstorm which swept through Calabar city yesterday, the 7th of May, 2025.  The Acting Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Director of Administration,  Professor Tom Ojikpong, expressed this concern when she led members of the University's management team on an on-the-spot inspection of the affected buildings in Calabar campus of the University.
