Village Head Expresses Gratitude to NDDC Commissioner for Relief Materials, Offers Prayers for Blessings and Protection"

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has delivered relief materials valued at millions of naira to the Eto Mkpe Yellow Duke community in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State. This intervention aims to support distressed communities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, the Commissioner representing Cross River in the NDDC, personally delivered the relief materials on Monday, June 3, 2024. He revealed that these items were part of the 2021 palliative measures intended for flood-affected communities across the Niger Delta. Cross River, however, had not received its share of these palliatives until now.

Explaining the delay, Duke stated, "Cross River did not get its share of the palliatives at that time. Upon assuming office, I took up the matter and secured approval for the release of the items to the state."

He added, "It behoves on me to identify certain afflicted communities and try to alleviate some of their plights. We’ve been going around, and today we are in Eto Mkpe community to carry out a simple assignment and observe a little ceremony of handing over palliatives. We have rice, indomie, slippers, mosquito nets, fishing nets, and other essential items that can help jumpstart the lives of those affected."

Highlighting the role of the NDDC, Duke remarked, "We are just an interventionist agency. Our aim is to assist. We pray that in assisting, the little token we offer will not bring acrimony within the community. That is why we direct the gifts to the leadership of the community, hoping they will distribute them peacefully and harmoniously."

He also emphasized the collaborative efforts between the NDDC and the state government, saying, "Let the records show that as much as we want to help out, we will do so in alignment with what the state government is doing. We strive to add value to what our governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, is doing. Where we can, we’ll assist; where he can, he’ll augment. We work together."

Duke further disclosed plans for infrastructure development in the community, announcing that road projects would commence once the NDDC's budget for the year receives National Assembly approval. These projects have already been included in the Commission’s fiscal documents.

Receiving the relief materials, the village head, His Highness Anthony Edem Nyong, expressed gratitude to the NDDC Commissioner, praying for blessings and protection upon him and the Commission.

The youth leader, Mr. Felix Nsa Effanga, echoed the community’s appreciation. He highlighted the ongoing solar light installation project and other future projects, thanking Hon. Orok Duke for his efforts.
