Hon. Mercy Akpama Empowers 38 Constituents with Business Tools, Capital in Historic "Purpose Summit"

The Member Representing Yakurr II State Constituency at the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Mercy Akpama, Ph.D., has empowered 38 constituents with the necessary tools and funds to launch their businesses. The beneficiaries received POS machines, startup capital of ₦100,000 each, and essential business equipment, marking a significant stride towards fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship in the constituency.


The empowerment program was part of the "Purpose Summit," organized in collaboration with Interweave Solutions International (USA). The event, held at Precious Stone Nko in Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State, focused on capacity building and the promotion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) among residents.


Speaking to journalists, Hon. Mercy Akpama emphasized that the initiative was in fulfillment of her campaign promises to the Yakurr II State Constituency.


 "This training and empowerment program is my way of giving back to my people. It is designed to instill an entrepreneurial spirit, promote self-reliance, and provide much-needed support to small and medium enterprises, including those run by people living with disabilities," she stated.


Dr. Exodus Esuku, the Country Director of Interweave Solutions International, lauded the partnership and encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities provided. 


Similarly, Dr. Matthew, the Cross River State APC Treasurer, congratulated the participants and urged them to leverage the knowledge and resources gained to become financially independent and contribute to the development of their communities.


Engr. Ayomobi Oko-ofaiye, a notable figure in Yakurr II, praised the initiative, calling it the first of its kind in the area. He highlighted how this empowerment program would help many families escape poverty and achieve sustainable livelihoods.


The beneficiaries, drawn from various wards in Yakurr II State Constituency, expressed their gratitude to Hon. Akpama, describing her as a "Mother of Mercy." They noted that this empowerment program stands out from the traditional ones, as it provides both the tools and financial support needed to thrive in business.


The two-day event concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants, along with POS machines, startup capital, and business equipment. Special provisions were also made for people with disabilities to enhance their business ventures. The event wrapped up with a photo session, capturing the joy and hope sparked by this landmark empowerment program.
