Hon. Peter Akpanke Demands Immediate Action on Ikom-Wula-Obudu, Ikom-Ogoja-Gakem Roads

In a recent statement, Hon. Peter Akpanke commended the relentless advocacy of the 'Who is Who in Cross River North' for their efforts in pushing for the rehabilitation of federal roads in the Cross River North senatorial district. He also acknowledged the federal government’s decision to award contracts for the repair of the Ikom-Wula-Obudu and Ikom-Ogoja-Gakem roads to Jon Paca Investment Ltd and Ryte Reasons Ltd, respectively.

However, Akpanke expressed serious concerns over the contractors' failure to mobilize to the sites months after the contracts were awarded. Despite ongoing correspondences and raising the issue at a town hall meeting in June 2024 with the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, the situation remains unchanged, causing severe hardship for the people of Obudu/Bekwerra/Obanliku federal constituency.

Akpanke urged the contractors to either commence work immediately or explain the delays. He warned that if no progress is made, he would petition the Ministry of Works to revoke the contracts and re-award them to more capable companies to ensure the timely completion of the much-needed road repairs, especially with the festive season approaching.

These roads, critical for economic and social activities, are in deplorable condition, leaving motorists stranded and impeding the movement of goods. Akpanke emphasized the urgent need to address these issues to restore normalcy and ease the suffering of the people in Cross River North.
