Senator Eteng Jones Williams, Cross River Dignitaries, Pay Tribute to Late Legal Luminary Tanko Mathias Ashang, SAN, at Funeral Mass

 



In a solemn gathering at Mater Redemptoris Parish, Sankwalla, Obanliku Local Government Area, Senator Eteng Jones Williams, representing Cross River Central in the Nigerian Senate, joined other dignitaries on Saturday, October 26, 2024, to honor the life and legacy of Tanko Mathias Ashang, SAN. The respected legal practitioner and dedicated public servant passed away on August 8, 2024, at the age of 54.


Reflecting on Ashang’s life, Senator Williams expressed profound sadness over the passing of a “brother and friend,” describing him as an honest, morally upright individual who served Cross River State with distinction during the administrations of Senator Liyel Imoke and Senator Prof. Ben Ayade. Until his death, Ashang held the role of Director and Legal Adviser to the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology.


“Mr. Ashang was a quiet soul whose devotion to work was outstanding. His tenacity reflected his passion, and I am honored to have worked closely with him as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,” said Senator Williams.


He added that Ashang’s memory would serve as a guiding beacon for the legal profession for years to come, expressing condolences on behalf of the Central Senatorial District. 


Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, represented by Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, praised Ashang for his integrity, professionalism, and the lasting legacy he created. 


Recalling Ashang’s significant contributions as Attorney General, including his leadership in reviewing outdated state laws and improving the ministry’s service standards, Odey described him as a “legal luminary” and an “exemplary ambassador of the state.”


In his tribute, Deputy Governor Odey offered words of comfort to Ashang’s family, urging them to find solace in the knowledge that Ashang led a life of compassion and dedication, leaving a profound impact on the state.


The service also included remarks from notable leaders, including Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, who highlighted Ashang’s support for Cross River North, pledging the continued support of Northern Leaders for his family. 


Among the attendees were APC State Chairman Alphonsus Eba, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Sylvester Agabi, former Chief of Staff Hon. Martin Orim, and Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, along with a host of past and present government officials, party members, and well-wishers.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr.
