Hon. Cyril Omini Calls for Peace Amid Leadership Crisis in Ntan Council Ward

The Member representing Yakurr 1 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly and Chairman House committee on finance budget and Appropriation, Hon. Cyril James Omini, has addressed the ongoing leadership crisis in the Ntan Council Ward of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The crisis erupted following a vote of no confidence passed on the Ward Chairman, Mr. Eteng Igri Ekpe, by some members of the ward executive over allegations, including his refusal to support a vote of confidence on Hon. Omini and Senator Eteng Williams, the Senator representing the Central Senatorial District.

In a statement, Hon. Omini emphasized his belief that power comes only from God and is given to whomever He chooses. He acknowledged the nature of politics but reiterated that his focus remains on delivering his campaign promises rather than engaging in political distractions.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I have constantly and unequivocally insisted that only God gives power, and He gives it to whoever He likes. As a politician, I am not oblivious to the fact that politicians would always play politics. However, those who know and are close to me can testify that I have always insisted that now is not the time for politics but a time to focus on delivering my campaign promises to my constituents,” he said.

He further stressed that performance should be the primary criterion for any vote of confidence, noting that Mr. Ekpe has the right to his opinion regarding his leadership.

“If Mr. Ekpe thinks I haven’t performed enough to deserve his vote of confidence, it is his opinion, and he has the right to hold it. Hence, this should not be one of the bases for his removal as Ward Chairman,” Hon. Omini stated.

Hon. Omini expressed gratitude to other executive members of the Ntan Council Ward for their confidence in his leadership. However, he urged all stakeholders to prioritize peace and work towards unity within the party.

“Our great party in the Local Government has been in the news for many bad reasons lately. As leaders, we have been working behind the scenes to resolve these issues, and Ntan APC must not take us backward,” he cautioned.

He also commended the Executive Governor of Cross River State for his commitment to the “People’s First” agenda, urging party members to support ongoing development efforts rather than becoming obstacles to progress.

“As Christians, the Bible admonishes us to follow peace with all men. I urge all to follow the path of peace,” he concluded.

Hon. Omini’s appeal for peace and unity comes at a crucial time for the APC in Cross River State, as the party seeks to consolidate its position and ensure effective governance for the benefit of the people.
