UNICROSS Alumni Welcomes VC Appt Advert, Calls For Transparency

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association has commended the newly inaugurated 6th Governing Council of the university for taking the right step towards stabilizing the institution's leadership by releasing advertisement for the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor for the institution.

The Alumni Association, speaking through its National Public Relations Officer, Dr. (Mrs.) Peace Egbai, described the advertisement as timely, noting that it will bring an end to the prolonged culture of acting Vice Chancellors at the University.

While emphasizing the need for transparency and credibility in the process,

she said that the association welcomes this development with enthusiasm, having long advocated for an end to the interim arrangement.

The PRO commended Governor Bassey Otu for appointing and inaugurating people of impeccable character into the council, who have demonstrated remarkable efficiency by initiating the process of appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor within 24 hours of taking office.

According to her, “I want to first of  congratulate our National President, Dr. Inyali Peter, who led the charge for what the council has now started. For nearly a year, he has been talking and insisting that the culture of acting appointments was not giving the university the needed stability. So many people didn’t understand this, but most times, you don’t even need the crowd; you just need to stand for what is right, and no matter how long it takes, with consistency, it’ll definitely come to pass.”

Also, I commend our dear Governor and Visitor, Sen. Bassey Otu, for decisively dealing with this issue by first appointing people of impeccable character and then swiftly inaugurating them to hit the ground running. You can see that this council is different already; the members were inaugurated on Thursday, Friday and Monday were public holidays, which means they have had less than 24 hours to work, and the process for appointing a VC has already commenced.”

The Alumni Spokesperson maintained that even though with our President as a member of the council, “we don’t expect anything less, we want to emphasize that we will not actually accept anything less. The process that has commenced must be transparent and thorough in order to produce the best.”
