The people of Akamkpa and Biase Local Government Areas have unanimously endorsed Governor Bassey Edet Otu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, for a second term in office.
The endorsement took place during a massive solidarity rally held Thursday at the Akamkpa Local Government Council Secretariat. The event drew a large crowd of stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, lawmakers, party executives, youth and women groups, and grassroots supporters from across the federal constituency.
Stakeholders pointed to Governor Otu’s remarkable achievements in just two years as the basis for their overwhelming support. They described his administration’s performance as a firm foundation for sustained development across the state.
A motion for a vote of confidence and endorsement was moved by Barr. Uno Ogban and seconded by Hon. Angelica Bassey, with further support from Hon. Matthew Olory and Hon. Susan Ukpai. The motion was unanimously adopted through a thunderous voice vote.
Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. George O’ben-Etchi, Chairman/CEO of the Cross River State Forestry Commission, lauded Governor Otu as a "symbol of stability and progress." He noted that the governor’s transformative leadership has positively impacted Akamkpa, Biase, and the entire state, and emphasized the people’s desire for continuity.
Hon. Ijom-Odum Ukam, Commissioner for Youth Development and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, commended the administration’s youth-focused policies. “For the first time in years, our young people feel heard and empowered,” he said.
Other key speakers included the Chairmen of Akamkpa and Biase LGAs, members of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Biase and Akamkpa I & II, commissioners, the APC State Vice Chairman (South), Hon. (Mrs) Tity Ndifon, paramount rulers, student leaders, and youth representatives. They praised Governor Otu’s strides in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, and youth development, noting that the administration's impact is being felt beyond the state.
Responding on behalf of the Governor, Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey expressed deep gratitude. “We are humbled by your trust and support. Governor Otu and I remain dedicated to the inclusive development of every part of Cross River State,” he said.
Also in attendance were Hon. Pius Ankpo, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure (representing the Deputy Governor), royal fathers, women leaders, party faithful, and representatives of various youth and student groups.
