In a bold stride towards strengthening grassroots governance and fostering local development, the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has signed into law five strategic bills passed by the Legislative Council, officially enacting them as bylaws.
The signing ceremony, which took place on Monday in his office, was witnessed by the Leader of the 7th Legislative Assembly, Hon. Samuel Eneji, the Clerk of the Chamber, Dr. Agabi Ferdinand, and several other councillors. It marked what observers described as a pivotal moment in the drive to reposition Obudu for responsive leadership and sustainable growth.
Speaking shortly after the formal assent, Hon. Undiandeye commended the Legislative Council for its foresight, diligence, and dedication to the development of the local government. He noted that the new set of bylaws are designed to address critical community needs, improve administrative efficiency, preserve cultural identity, and enhance economic opportunities for residents.
“These bylaws are not just policy documents—they are instruments of change tailored to tackle the pressing issues facing our communities. From streamlining market activities to ensuring consumer protection and generating revenue, each law reflects our shared vision of a better Obudu,” the council boss stated.
According to him, the laws passed through rigorous legislative processes, underscoring his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
The newly signed bylaws include:
✓Obudu Consumer Protection Bylaw 2025
✓Parking of Heavy-Duty Trucks/Vehicles Prohibition Bylaw 2025
✓Tenement Rate Bylaw 2025

Undiandeye reiterated that his administration remains unwavering in its resolve to place the welfare of the people at the heart of governance. He urged residents and stakeholders to key into the council’s vision, assuring that all initiatives are in line with the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu’s “People First” governance philosophy.
“We are not just making laws; we are creating frameworks that will shape a more orderly, prosperous, and culturally proud Obudu. Governance is a collective task, and we need the cooperation of all to actualize our goals,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Eneji, hailed the chairman’s swift action as a “historic endorsement of people-centered legislation,” and a demonstration of synergy between the executive and legislative arms of the council.
He emphasized that the 7th Council remains committed to enacting laws that improve the quality of life for citizens and foster development at the grassroots, adding that all legislative actions were taken in compliance with Sections 1 and 2 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Eneji affirmed that the Council would continue to work in tandem with the chairman’s administration to actualize the “Social Contract” pledged to the people of Obudu.
