MUPDP Dispels Leadership Tussle Rumours, Affirms Unity Between Senators Jarigbe and Onor

By Ekanem Asuquo

The Movement for United PDP (MUPDP) has dismissed as false and mischievous recent rumours suggesting a leadership tussle between Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe and Senator Sandy Onor within the Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement made available to The Beagle News on Thursday, the group described such claims as “divisive rhetoric designed to fabricate internal conflict where none exists.”

According to the statement, jointly signed by Comrade Ushie Paul (National Coordinator) and Comrade Oka Ikpi (National Secretary), both Senators are not only united but are working closely and “assiduously to revive and reorganise the party’s structures across the state and beyond.”

“We view these insinuations as dangerous, ill-timed, and likely sponsored by external interests intent on destabilising the PDP,” the group said. “They are capable of causing unnecessary friction at a time when genuine reconciliation and restructuring efforts are underway in preparation for the 2027 general elections.”

The MUPDP reaffirmed that Senators Jarigbe and Onor share a mutual vision for a revitalised PDP, positioning the party as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State and Nigeria at large.

The group also called out “splinter groups and self-styled support organisations,” alleging that some of them are being funded by third-force elements outside the PDP. It warned such groups to desist from spreading falsehoods that only serve the interest of political adversaries who benefit from division and instability within the party.

“Senator Jarigbe remains focused on his legislative duties and committed to strengthening the PDP’s grassroots appeal,” the statement clarified. “Any suggestion of a rift between him and Senator Sandy Onor is entirely baseless. In fact, they continue to maintain mutual respect and a common goal of rebuilding the party.”

MUPDP further urged the ruling APC and its allies to focus on fulfilling their campaign promises instead of engaging in “politics of distraction, mudslinging, and name-calling.”

In conclusion, the group appealed to party stakeholders, members, and grassroots supporters to remain calm, focused, and united.

“The future of the PDP depends not on factionalism or power play, but on collective action, mutual respect, and strategic alignment among all progressive forces,” the statement added.
