A new wave of commendation has swept through the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) following the recent staff-focused initiative spearheaded by the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey.
The UNICROSS Alumni Association has applauded the Vice Chancellor for what it described as a groundbreaking and people-centred leadership approach, particularly in the area of staff welfare.
The association expressed delight over the introduction of a dedicated “Staff Week” a first in the university’s history, which featured a range of activities designed to celebrate and uplift the workforce. These activities included wellness talks, medical screenings, a fitness walk, a novelty football match, awards, and a staff dinner.
Speaking with Detailing News, Dr. (Mrs.) Peace Egbai, Acting Head of the Department of Broadcasting and National Public Relations Officer of the UNICROSS Alumni Association, described the initiative as a bold and commendable move that has repositioned the university’s focus on its people.
“This is a first in the history of UNICROSS. It is refreshing to see staff being acknowledged in such a thoughtful and organized manner,” Dr. Egbai stated.
“The alumni community is proud of Professor Francisca Bassey’s leadership. She has brought a humane touch to administration, and it is clear that the welfare of the University’s workforce is a real priority.”
She emphasized that the Staff Week not only lifted the morale of staff but also served as a statement of the Vice Chancellor’s understanding of inclusive governance. According to her, the programme has redefined the culture of engagement within the institution and set a positive precedent for the future.
The UNICROSS Alumni Association lauded Professor Bassey for her vision, empathy, and drive to foster a healthier, happier, and more appreciated staff community.
Members of the association further pledged their continued support to the Vice Chancellor’s administration as it pursues excellence through people-oriented leadership.
