 By: Eric Azogor,

Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Assembly Liason

The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Sen. (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, attains a remarkable feat in his people centered vision

as he offers a significant relief in a game changing move to redirect government focus from Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to Human Development Index (HDI), as he actuates the early presentation of the N780.6bn appropriation bill for the 2026 Fiscal year.

The special Assistant to the Governor on Assembly Liaison, Mr Eric Azogor further gave an enlightenment on the importance of the 2026 budget; that the proposed budget of ₦780.6billion budget of "Inclusive Growth" marks a 17 percent increase over 2025 budget of sustainable growth with ₦519.6 billion (67%) earmarked for capital expenditure and ₦260.96 billion (33%) for recurrent spending, with the sectoral distribution allocating ₦421 billion to the economic sector, ₦163 billion to social services, ₦164 billion to general administration, ₦28 billion to law and justice, and ₦3.6 billion to regional development. “This budget is designed to strengthen our revenue base, drive human capital development, and secure a prosperous, peaceful, and resilient Cross River State" that we all wished for.

The Sen. Prince Bassey Otu's administration has been trailed by heroic feats and commendable gestures, second to none in the deliberate development and transmogrification of Cross River State; some of his outstanding achievements includes but not limited to the rehabilitation of the state owned properties, like the State library, the long abandoned Speaker's lodge that suffered sheer neglect by previous administrations and roads infrastructures across the state, a zero tolerance on Potholes in the metropolis and ultimately resuscitating the long lost vigor of Cross River State; to facilitate job security, he engendered massive employment into the state's civil service, effected the release of the unpaid residue of workers gratuity clogged since 2009 and strengthened the security architecture of the State to ensure a safe, peaceful and and productive Cross River State.

Most spectacularly is the drastic deviation from the Nigerian governing norm of abandoning the projects of erstwhile administrations, Sen Prince Bassey Otu's, administration has ensured continuity in governance by taking over his predecessor's projects to secure it completion and essentially achieve the original goal which culminates into grease on the wheels of the state's progress.

His Excellency, the Governor has been very dogmatic and pragmatic towards the attainment of his people first mantra, this has been evinced by the nonpareil performance which has ignited a deep rooted trust and unwavering confidence in the people to say, His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, is the ideal image of a leader and saviour with deep rooted trust and unwavering confidence in the people to say the least.
