The Voice of Central (VOC), a socio-political and grassroots mobilisation organization in Cross River State, has paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, confirming him as one of its patrons in recognition of his outstanding support and contributions to the group’s activities.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Ministry of Information, Calabar, was aimed at fostering unity and strengthening political cooperation among leaders and stakeholders within the Central Senatorial District.

Speaking during the visit, the Director-General of Voice of Central, Comrade Victor Bassey, lamented that personal political interests have begun to threaten the long-standing unity and togetherness for which the Central Senatorial District has been known.

He emphasized the need for politicians to put aside individual ambitions and prioritize peace, love, and family ties above political divisions.

“Politics will always come and go, but our bonds of brotherhood must remain,” Comrade Bassey said. He further called for continued support for the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Sen. (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, describing him as the leader of the state whose success depends on the collective commitment of all stakeholders.

The delegation, which also used the occasion to formally confirm Dr. Ekpang as one of its patrons, commended his achievements in repositioning the Ministry of Information and his commitment to human capacity development. The group presented him with an Award of Patronship in recognition of his contributions to a more informed and united Central Senatorial District.

In his response, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang expressed appreciation to the Voice of Central team for identifying with him and for their consistent advocacy for unity and progress in the district.

“You have done the right thing at the right time. Central needs peace and unity to rebuild its past glory,” he said. “Your voice matters—use it to promote peace, stand against injustice, and build a more inclusive Central where unity and development thrive.”

The Commissioner also urged the group to continue engaging with leaders across the senatorial district to strengthen collaboration and foster a shared vision for growth.

“The journey to a better Central may not always be easy,” he added.

“There will be challenges, but our resilience and collective strength as a people will see us through.”

The delegation was led by the Director-General, Comrade Victor Bassey, and included Hon. Ojie Etta, Ghineneni Armon, Margaret Oguoba, Mrs. Ngozi Onogha, Daniel Nelson, and Eyo Ijo, among others.

In closing, the Voice of Central reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interest of the Central Senatorial District and supporting Governor Bassey Otu’s administration to achieve its vision for a prosperous Cross River State.

“Central is our own,” Comrade Bassey reiterated. “We must protect it to the fullest and support the Governor to succeed.”
