RESPONDING TO EBA’S CLAIMS THAT HE MADE SENATOR OTU GOVERNOR: PUTTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT

The attention of  the South South zone and Cross River State chapter of the Conference of  Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP),  has  been drawn to a video which has gone viral on the internet  wherein the erstwhile state chairman of the APC, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba was heard alleging that the governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, was disqualified on the eve of the primaries.

He further alleged that “it was the same him that did everything for him to sit as Governor. He used every power that be and his might to clear him and to deliver him…”

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties take exception to Barr.  Alphonsus Eba’s spurious allegation against the governor. For the avoidance of doubt, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu was not only qualified, he was eminently qualified to contest for the Office of Governor. How can a Man who previously and dutifully served in both chambers of the national assembly not qualified to contest as governor?

Perhaps, Mr. Eba has since forgotten that the party is not one man’s property.

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties which is an amalgam of Political Parties and Pressure groups is well at home with the procedures and  qualifications as entrenched in the 1999 constitution (as amended) and the electoral act. Senator Otu ticked the boxes to  contest as governor of Cross River State.  His antecedence, enduring legacies, and his interpersonal relationships with all and sundry won him the admiration and support of the good people of Cross River State who demonstrated this by enthusiastically going out to vote overwhelmingly for him.

It is an insult on  Crossriverians who voted for him  to hear evangelist Eba claim that “…it is the same him that did everything for Senator Otu to sit as Governor”

If Mr. Eba had such a sphere of influence at his bake and call, as he claims, he would not have suffered defeat when he contested election in time past.

Mr. Eba should note that the Party was built by a team of party faithfuls across the State. Do not take the glory of the sacrificial contributions of other members who make up the state executive, the workaholic Local Government Chapter Executives and the resilient ward executives who are indeed, the real foot soldiers. For us,

Mr. Eba should be grateful to the party for providing him the platform which attracted fame, Wealth, Political Appointments, Endless Opportunities and Power, which unfortunately, he misused.

Finally, we condemn in strong terms the allegation that the Governor was not qualified to contest election. We call on all Cross Riverians to disregard these lies. We urge Mr. Eba to toe the path of honour and let Cross River State be.

“Physician, heal thyself”

Mr. Patrick Ali........Cross River State Chairman.

Comrade Castro Ezama..... South South zonal Chairman.
