CRS Family Planning Working Group Commends Gov. Otu for 22m Investment in Reproductive Health

On behalf of the Cross River State Family Planning Advocacy and Technical Working Group, I wish to express our profound appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for his visionary leadership and commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people.

We are particularly grateful for your strong support for domestic financing of family planning, as demonstrated through the Government Cash Counterpart Contribution, which culminated in the investment of 22 million in 2025 for the procurement of family planning commodities. This laudable commitment, formally handed over today, by UNFPA Nigeria through the Cross River Sub-Office Head of Office, Dr. Andrew Kirima, to the Cross River State Ministry of Health, marks a significant milestone in our collective journey toward sustainable healthcare financing.

Your Excellency, this 'sweet' support would not only impact access to quality and lifesaving reproductive health services across the State, but would also reduce overreliance on donor funding and upscale Cross River State’s ownership of its family planning initiatives.

This bold step clearly demonstrates your administration’s resolve to advance universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, particularly for women, young people, and vulnerable populations.

This, indeed, is a milestone event in this season of sweetness for our people.

Your Excellency, CRS FPA & TWG, is enthused by this intervention, because it will have lasting positive impacts on maternal health, child survival, economic productivity, and overall sustainable development markers in the State. We remain committed, as a Technical Working Group, to support the government’s efforts through advocacy, coordination, and mutual accountability to ensure maximum value from this investment.

Once again, we thank Your Excellency for prioritising the health of Cross Riverians and for setting a commendable example of responsive and people-centred governance.

We also appreciate our indefatigable Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, and the entire Ministry of Health for their dedication and effective stewardship in ensuring this spectacular delivery, in response to the needs of people. We are grateful to our worthy partner, UNFPA for believing in CRS and the Working Group members for their steadfastness.

God bless Cross River State.

God bless Your Excellency.

Hon. Dr. Bassey Ibor,

Chairman,

Cross River State Family Planning Advocacy and Technical Working Group
