An aide to the Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Comrade Richie Romanus, has taken to social media to spotlight what he described as the people-oriented interventions of Senator Eteng Jones Williams, particularly in the health and water sectors across the district.
In a Facebook post titled “The Senator Eteng Jones Williams I Know – Part 1,” Romanus recounted the Senator’s 2025 Christmas tour of the district, noting that hospital visits were deliberately prioritised.
According to him, Senator Williams repeatedly stressed that clearing hospital bills for indigent patients gave him deep personal fulfilment, especially as beneficiaries often lacked the means to formally return to express gratitude.
Romanus said members of the tour team witnessed the Senator’s “unusual excitement” each time hospital bills were settled, describing him as a leader who is moved by the pain of others and committed to easing human suffering.
He further disclosed that in the Senator’s 2026 budget proposal, a sum of 150 million has been earmarked for the renovation and equipping of selected Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the Central Senatorial District. The aide quoted the Senator as saying the health intervention would be a recurring budgetary item until between 70 and 80 per cent of PHCs in the district are adequately equipped to handle basic emergencies, particularly given the district’s difficult terrain and limited access to tertiary hospitals.
“For Senator Eteng Williams, it is policies over politics,” Romanus emphasised.
In Part 2 of the series, the aide stated the Senator’s interventions in the provision of potable water. He recalled that the Ababene Development Union Worldwide, acting on the mandate of the community leadership, paid a courtesy “thank you” visit to Senator Williams in Abuja for facilitating the construction of a solar-powered borehole in Ababene community, Obubra Local Government Area.
Romanus noted that Ababene had for years struggled with acute water scarcity, forcing residents to trek long distances in search of water, until the Senator’s intervention. While acknowledging that one borehole may not fully serve the community’s needs, he described the project as one of the most impactful developments in Ababene in recent times.
The aide added that Senator Williams is fully aware of the widespread water challenges across the senatorial district and remains committed to expanding access to clean and potable water.
He listed communities that have benefited from similar solar-powered borehole projects to include Bendeghe Ekiem (Etung LGA), Ediba (Abi), Olulumo (Ikom), Ijom (Ugep), Asiga (Yakurr), Boje (Boki), as well as Aduma and Afaben in Mkpani, Yakurr LGA.
According to Romanus, at least 15 additional borehole projects have been awarded and are awaiting implementation, reaffirming what he described as the Senator’s sustained commitment to grassroots development and improved living standards in Cross River Central.
