The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, on Sunday, January 25, 2026, hosted a delegation of local government chairmen and other senior government officials in furtherance of efforts to strengthen the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic registration (e-registration) exercise across the state.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Cross River State and Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Yibala Inyang. It also included the Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Hon. Bassey Effiom Effiong, alongside other key government functionaries.

The visit, which took place at Barr. Agbor’s Etomi country home in Etung Local Government Area, was aimed at deepening grassroots mobilisation, fostering stronger collaboration among stakeholders, and ensuring the success of the APC e-registration exercise in Etung LGA and adjoining communities.

Speaking at the solidarity visit, Hon. Yibala Inyang said the visit highlighted the commitment of local government leadership to working closely with party leaders and government officials to expand party membership and enhance participation in the ongoing registration process.

He noted that the Forum of Chairmen remains focused on strengthening APC structures at the grassroots and ensuring that all eligible party members are properly captured in the e-registration exercise. Hon. Inyang also commended Barr. Agbor for his consistent support for party-building initiatives, describing him as a dependable ally in advancing the objectives of the APC across Cross River State.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Hon. Bassey Effiom Effiong, emphasized the strategic importance of the e-registration exercise in repositioning the APC for sustained political growth and inclusiveness. He said a robust and credible party database at the grassroots level is critical to effective planning, mobilisation, and the strengthening of internal democracy.

Expressing dissatisfaction at the comparatively low turnout in the exercise across the state, Hon. Effiong commended Barr. Agbor for the high level of mobilisation in Etomi, while urging the people to double their efforts to improve the numbers.

Hon. Bassey assured that local government councils remain committed to mobilising party members and supporters to fully embrace the exercise, adding that a successful e-registration process would further consolidate the APC’s dominance across Cross River State. He urged party faithful to see the exercise as a collective responsibility aimed at securing the future of the party.

Responding, Barr. Gilbert Agbor thanked the delegation for the visit, describing it as a clear demonstration of unity, shared purpose, and collective resolve within the APC. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote grassroots engagement and party consolidation, stressing that sustained collaboration among party leaders remains critical to the success of the e-registration drive.

The visit highlighted the determination of APC leaders and government officials in Cross River State to work together in strengthening the party through inclusive, coordinated, and sustained grassroots mobilisation.

Following the departure of the local government chairmen, Barr. Agbor, in the company of the Leader of the Etung Legislative Council, Hon. ThankGod Ekubnse Ojong, Mr. Nji Nji, Director in the State Road Maintenance Agency, as well as members of the Etung Local Government Executive Council, including the Supervisor for Environment, Amba Obaji; Supervisor for Transport, Bright Ntui; and Supervisor for Agriculture, Collins Asu Bassey, proceeded to Abia Ward, navigating difficult terrain to further mobilise residents to turn out en masse for the APC e-registration exercise.

Barr. Agbor expressed concern over the generally low turnout recorded so far in Etung Local Government Area and called on ward leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts, stressing that the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration has implemented people-centred policies and programmes deserving of broad public support.

The high point of the visit to Abia community was the presentation of registration materials to ward officials, as well as the provision of incentives to encourage women’s participation in the e-registration exercise.
