Clergyman Calls for Increased Prayers in UNICROSS

A clergyman and Lead Pastor of God of Wonders Service, Pastor Umoren Ayang, has called on staff and students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), to always offer more fervent prayers to God.

He made the call on Tuesday March 3rd 2026, at the Conference Room of the Vice Chancellor's office during the March 2026 edition of the Vice Chancellor's monthly prayer summit.

While speaking on the theme of "contend with your rights", Pastor Ayang stated that prayer is the best way of fighting for what lawfully belongs to anyone.

He said: "You can't attain without fighting a battle. This thing you are seeing happening in this institution is a distraction. If you are to go far, you don't pay attention to distractions. You destroy it and move forward. You don't pamper distractions, you hammer it. You don't manage distractions, you damage it. I know you have been praying but make it a more conscious act in your offices and classrooms. Prayer works. It may take a while but it actually works. The power of prayer is in its consistency. Pray. Don't get tired."

Pastor Ayang commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, for her efforts in positively repositioning UNICROSS and enjoined her to remain focused and undistracted. He said: "Distractions are elements that remove your sight from the goal. There is a goal that this school wants to achieve. UNICROSS is moving forward. No more distractions. No more delays. No more stagnation. Students will be proud of schooling here. Staff will be proud of working here."

He prayed for promptness in delivery of assignments by staff and warned saboteurs to desist from their activities, lest they incur God's wrath.

On her part, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the need for love and unity and prayed for God's blessings on staff and students who exemplify those tenets.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Stella Maris-Okey; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Thomas Ojikpong; the Registrar, Dr. Catherine Osai, the Librarian, Dr. Victoria Iyishu, some Directors, some Deans, some Heads of Departments and some staff of the Vice Chancellor's office, attended the prayer session.

Shortly before the official closing hour, they all joined the Vice Chancellor in her office to break the day's fast.
