Precious Jerry Akuma, a former student of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), has received her degree certificate following widespread attention to her viral TikTok videos highlighting a five-year delay in the processing of her results.
In a newly released video, she described the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, as “a destiny helper,” commending her for swift intervention that led to the release of her results and those of other affected students.
Her case gained public attention in February 2026 when she shared emotional videos detailing her experience.
In one clip, she said: “I am going to try not to cry. But I am so hurting… This is something I have not been able to say for the past five good years of my life. I studied Animal Science… I was supposed to graduate in 2020 but because of COVID-19 we couldn't graduate. We graduated in 2021… I have done everything concerning my education… Today is Day Ten of thirty days of speaking to my camera. This is what has been a burden to my heart for the past five years.”
Despite visible anxiety, she presented evidence of her admission in the 2015/2016 academic session and other documents confirming her studentship. She also expressed her passion for agriculture, stating: “I studied Animal Science. I want to be a farmer. But CRUTECH has refused to give me my results. I can't even find my complete results.”
The institution, formerly known as Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), was renamed UNICROSS in 2021. Professor Bassey was appointed as Vice Chancellor just about a year ago.
Despite the enormous challenges she inherited at the University, the Vice Chancellor has, since assuming office, initiated policies geared towards the prompt computation and release of results to students, including reforms in the General Studies programme that now allow students to view their scores and grades in real time immediately after submission, as well as the timely issuance of certificates to deserving graduates.
