The Cross River State Government, through the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, has officially terminated the road construction contract awarded to Sydney Construction Company for the Obanliku–Obudu–Abucheche–Mfom–Okpoma Road project due to unsatisfactory performance and failure to fulfill contractual obligations.
Speaking during the contract termination process, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Ankpo Edet, reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to accountability, quality service delivery, and responsible management of public infrastructure projects.
"The decision to terminate this contract follows a thorough assessment of the contractor's performance. Regrettably, the company failed to meet the agreed contractual terms, timelines, and expected standards. Consequently, the government has exercised its contractual right to terminate the agreement in the interest of the people of Cross River State," the Commissioner stated.
Hon. Edet emphasized that the administration remains resolute in ensuring that every public project is executed with professionalism, efficiency, and strict adherence to contractual standards. He noted that contractors entrusted with government projects must demonstrate the capacity, commitment, and competence required to deliver quality results within the stipulated timeframe.
He further stressed that the government will continue to uphold transparency, accountability, and value for public resources, adding that no contractor will be allowed to compromise the state's vision for sustainable infrastructure development through delays or substandard execution.
"Our infrastructure projects are driven by a genuine commitment to improving the lives of our people. We remain focused on delivering durable, high-quality projects that will stimulate economic growth, enhance connectivity, and serve the long-term interests of Cross River State," Hon. Edet concluded.
