UNICROSS Alumni Directorate Hosts ‘Different Institutions Eras Meet and Greet’ to Bring Graduates Back Home

The Directorate of Alumni Relations, University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), is set to host a historic gathering of graduates from the successive generations of institutions that have occupied the university’s Calabar Campus, Ekpo Abasi.

Tagged “Different Institutions Eras Meet and Greet,” the event is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the New Mass Communication Block of the Calabar Campus.

The interactive gathering will bring together alumni of the defunct College of Technology Calabar, which later became The Polytechnic Calabar (POLYCAL); graduates of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH); and alumni of the present University of Cross River State (UNICROSS).

The initiative is part of the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, to strengthen the relationship between the university and its alumni.

In furtherance of this commitment, the Vice Chancellor established the Directorate of Alumni Relations in May 2025 and appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Obia Eniang-Esien as its pioneer Director.

The Directorate is mandated to bridge the gap between the university and its alumni by fostering meaningful and sustained engagement with graduates of the institution and its predecessor institutions. The initiative recognises the importance of alumni returning to their alma mater, reconnecting with the institution that trained and sent them forth, and contributing to its continued growth and development.

The “Different Institutions Eras Meet and Greet” is designed to provide an opportunity for graduates of the different eras to reconnect with their alma mater, renew old relationships, share experiences and celebrate the institutional journey that has transformed the Ekpo Abasi Campus over the years.

The gathering, being organised for the first time in the history of the university, is the brainchild of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, whose administration has continued to promote stronger relationships between the university and its alumni.

Speaking on the purpose of the gathering, the Director of the Directorate of Alumni Relations, Dr. (Mrs.) Obia Eniang-Esien, said the event is intended to reconnect graduates of the various generations with the institution they once called home.

According to her, “We want to make them come back home.”

She explained that the initiative is also intended to encourage alumni to look back at the institution where they received their training, reconnect with it and explore meaningful ways of giving back to their alma mater.

The event is therefore expected to create a unique platform for graduates of the different eras to meet one another, interact and reflect on their shared institutional heritage, while also reconnecting with the university in its present form.

The Directorate of Alumni Relations cordially invites all graduates of the College of Technology Calabar, POLYCAL, CRUTECH and UNICROSS eras to return to their alma mater for this historic interactive session.

The Generational Eras Meet and Greet promises to be an opportunity to relive memories, renew friendships and celebrate the remarkable institutional journey from the College of Technology Calabar and POLYCAL, through CRUTECH, to today’s University of Cross River State.
