Ward Leaders Intervene as Group Withdraws Planned Recall of Councillor in Cross River




The ward leaders of both the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Erei-South Ward have intervened in the planned recall of Councillor, Mr. Edwin Ukam Inyang since after our report on the recall processes yesterday.


Recall that this blog reported  the recall process of the Erei-South Councillor by a group under the aegis of  Erei-South Youths for Good Governance (EYGG) over aledge poor representation. Finding had it that the said news generated a lot of hit, tension and worries among concern persons within and outside the  ward which necessitated the quick intervention of ward leaders to restore normalcy.


In a statement made available to our reporter in Calabar, the PDP Ward Chairman Mr. Obin Egwu stated that he has held series of reconciliation meetings after the said reports with aggrieved parties. He assurred the general public that he was able to resolve the said impass between the Councillor and some aggrieved Youths of Erei-South ward, alongside notable ward leaders.


The PDP Ward Chairman in his statement assured the aggrieved constituents of the Councillor's resolve to address all lingering issues to restore peace and maintain harmonious relationship with ward members.


In his words, Mr. Obin noted that this issue has generated a lot of tension within  the ward and beyond, although he acknowledged the fact that the issue was being overrated and had unnecessary gone viral. 


He assured the people of Erei-South of the Councillor's sincere optimism to address all areas of misunderstanding. 


In his word: "I have spoken with the Honourable Councillor of the ward and we have met with aggrieved parties and all differences have been amicably resolved. The Councillor was equally shocked at the turn of events and he blamed the misconceptions on some mischief makers who are trying to generate issues and over heat the polity within ward for their personal gain", Mr. Egwu said.


Our correspondence equally reached out to the Ward Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Charles Ekup, who also noted that he has received several phone calls from constituents and ward leaders and had equally attended several meetings on that regards. He maintained that nothing was unresolvable, with love, unity, peaceful disposition and appropriate modalities being put in place. 


The APC Chairman added that he was not against such reconciliation moves, for he is not an author of division, rancour and confusion but popularly known as a man of peace. He further pointed  out that any reconcilliation that is genuine and targeted at achieving the expected good representation needed in Erei-South, he wi not exitate to support same. 


According to him: "I have received several calls from ward leaders and concern ward members. One impression I have to emphasize here is that I am not a problem person, I am a man of peace, who want progress and peace in our beloved ward. If the Councillor is willing to adjust as speculated, I am willing to cooperate with him to chant a better course for the benefit of the entire Erei-South. I have attended several reconciliation meeting, we have tabled our issues, especially the area of inaccessibility and not picking of calls as well as unwillingness to reconcile warring communities, we have been assured that the Councillor will swing into immediate action, it is left for us to see improvement in the subsequent weeks"' he added.


The affected Councillor, Hon. Edwin Ukam Inyang phone was unreachable as at the time of filling this report.
