CR Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week Begins December 17

 




Cross River State government's year 2020 maternal, newborn and Child Health Week Begins today the 17th day of December 2020 across the 18 Local Government Areas.


This event offers great opportunity for pregnant women, nursing mothers and children to enjoy free medical health care services for the duration of the exercise.


Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu, Deputy Governor, who was represented by Dr. Betta Edu, Commissioner of Health flagged off the exercise at PHC Mayne Avenue, Calabar South.


Edu noted that they have a full integrated package for mothers And children ranging from deworming tablets, HIV test, screening for malnutrition and provision of nutritional supplements alongside antimalarials bed nets.


She appealed to all women and children to come out and benefit for this health Christmas package.


During interview with Press men Edu in her words" Cross River State is rated by UNICEF as the best state with child survival rate in Nigeria. The under-5 mortality rate in Cross River State is about 127 per 100,000 life birth, however is the best below the National averge and child born in Cross River State can survive more than child born in other states in Nigeria".


In conclusion Edu added that 361, 127 children of under 5 years are targeted alongside 900,000 mothers within reproductive age in Cross River State.


Earlier the DG primary healthcare development after thanking the Governor of Cross River State for this wonderful opportunity to the children and mothers, went ahead to urged all pregnant women and caregivers to take advantage of the free healthcare services provided by Sen. Prof. Ayade and ensure they visit all the primary healthcare centres for this Christmas health package.
