LEOS: ENHANCING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE THROUGH QUIZ COMPETITIONS … As FGGC retains crown

 



In its avowed commitment to improving academic excellence in Secondary Schools across the State, the Calabar Akpabuyo Island Leo Club, Leo Region 4, District 404A2 Nigeria have recently organized a quiz competition for select schools in Calabar.


Speaking at the event, the President of the Club, Leo Eyo Cohbam said the essence of the yearly competition was to trigger the get-up-and-go spirit for students to better the lots and strive for excellence in the academic pursuit and beyond.


The President, who described the gesture as higher service to humanity, remarked that Leo Club, which is a youth affiliate of Lions Clubs International, concerns itself with services that engender societal development.


He further stated that the event is organized in honour of the Club’s active members who are now deceased. He thanked members for their efforts which culminated to the successful hosting of the competition, pointing out that in life’s journey, one must leave worthy legacies that would stand the test of time.


Also speaking, a teacher and Coordinator of the Federal Government Girls College contingent, Mrs. Uze Chililia was full of praise for the Leo Club’s initiative of contributing towards the betterment of academic excellence. She said such competitions go a long way in boosting the morale of students to get better even after leaving that phase of life.


Articulating his views, a representative of Government Secondary School, Lagos Street, Calabar, Mr. Ayi Elvis expressed gratitude to the Leos for choosing such a laudable initiative that is aimed at enhancing students’ performances through healthy competitions.

Respective students, who spoke on behalf of their schools, were highly grateful to the Leos for creating an avenue that brings out the best in them and prepares them ahead of the future.


Speaking in an Interview,  the Leo Advisor of the Club, Lion Juliet William thanked the Leos for their effort for putting up a successful event while urging the students to fuel in passion in their academic in order to become a shinning light to the world.


The keenly contested Quiz Competition saw Federal Government Girls College, Calabar emerging overall best to clinch the coveted prize. While Government Secondary School, Lagos Street, Calabar, and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Staff School, Calabar, emerged second and third respectively.


Highpoint of the event was presentation of trophy to Federal Government Girls College;  Educational materials like mathematical sets, past questions on WAEC and JAMB, text books, customise exercise books and pens, as well as certificates of participation were given to participating schools.
