UNICAL VC ON A FAMILIARIZATION TOUR TO THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, has assured that the House of Assembly will honour the invitation to the 34th Convocation ceremony of the  University of Calabar.


Williams stated this when the Vice Chancellor of the University  Prof. Florence Obi, led other management members on a courtesy visit to the Speaker's office.


The Speaker used the forum to appeal for collaboration between the State Assembly and University of Calabar, in the areas of admission and jobs opportunities in the Institution and however thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi and her team for the visit.


He noted that as representatives of the people, the House has the obligation to speak for them, adding that the Assembly must look for a way to resolving the land issues in the Institution.


The Speaker maintained that the University of Calabar is a Federal Institution that the people of the State needed, therefore the House must do everything to protect it.


Williams, further assured that he will convene a meeting with the House members representing Calabar South 1 and 11, Rt Hon. Joseph Bassey, Deputy Speaker and Rt. Hon. Okon Ephraim, the Chief Wipe, as well as the Calabar Municipality counterpart, Rt. Hon. Effa Esua, to swing into action, with a view to resolving the issues.


Also speaking, the House Committee Chairman on Education and member representing Boki 1 State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Itam Verginia Abang, in appreciation, commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi for the successes recorded in a short while in office and appealled for the consideration of indigent students during admissions, as 

well as elevating the University's academic status to rank among best Universities in the Country.


Earlier in her remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi, said she is appreciative of the overwhelming support given her, during and after her candidature and investiture as Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar, adding that the support will not be taken for granted, she stressed further that coming to the Assembly now, was deliberate, as one who is part of the lawmakers.


The Vice Chancellor, reiterated that she was in the Assembly with her team to formally invite the Speaker and members to the 34th Convocation ceremony of the University of Calabar, coming up on Saturday, 27th March, 2021, being the first under her watch.


Prof. Obi, maintained that the visit was to also appeal to the Assembly to intervene in the Land crisis between the University and the host Communities, where some of such cases are in court, adding that several attempts to resolving them has proved abortive.


Obi however called on the State Assembly to have an eye on the University Community, as part of their Constituent.


High point of the visit was the presentation of a pledge, in memory of the visit by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements. UNICROSS ACTING VC EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER DAMAGE OF UNIVERSITY STUCTURES AFTER RAINSTORM IN CALABAR

  The Acting Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State, Professor Francisca Bassey, has expressed concern over the gravity of damage of the University's structures recorded in the wake of the rainstorm which swept through Calabar city yesterday, the 7th of May, 2025.  The Acting Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Director of Administration,  Professor Tom Ojikpong, expressed this concern when she led members of the University's management team on an on-the-spot inspection of the affected buildings in Calabar campus of the University.
