Gov. Ayade, Deputy, Attend official Launch of United Nations Heforshe Campaign in Cross River State

 



In line with the advancement of Gender Equality in Nigeria, the ministry of International Development cooperation headed by Dr. Inyang Asibong, in collaboration with the United Nations Spotlight Initiative, today the 25th day of May 2021 organized the Heforshe Initiative Launch in Cross River State.


The spotlight initiative is a joint EU-UN multi-year programme to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls and to realize a Nigeria where all women and girls live free from all forms of violence. It is currently being implemented in Cross River, Ebonyi, Lagos, FCT, sokoto and Adamawa States. One of the major outcomes of the spotlight is to address pervasive social norms and negative gender stereotypes with a significant male engagement component which is a key objective of the HeforShe campaign.



"HeforShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality developed by UN women to engage men and boys as advocates and agents of change in the effort to achieve gender equality. The central message for the Heforshe Campaign in Nigeria is that gender inequality is not just a women's issue, but a human rights issue meant to benefit both women and men socially, politically and economically.



The launch of the Heforshe in Cross River is very essential in the successful implementation of this project, this launch emphasizes the importance of outreach to strategic groups, men, young people, the media, the private sector and other influential stakeholders on why the inclusion of men as allies will lead to the achievements of gender equality, the breaking of all stereotypes and patriarchal norms in Nigeria.


Cross River State Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade  flagged off the campaign in the state through the Ministry of international development cooperation.



The key highlights of the Heforshe launch was the decoration of His Excellency the Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade and His Majesty Uchua Amos Uyimulam the Paramount ruler of Obanliku as Heforshe ambassadors for Cross River State following their commitment to the elimination of gender based violence and ensuring gender equality in Cross River State.


During the event Ayade donated 10Million Naira for the creation of Calapiano dance in Cross River State.



Calapiano is a modern genre of music carved off an Afro-European setting, to help improved the dance performance of art and culture in the State.


Dignitaries at the event with The governor include, the deputy Governor of Cross River State Prof. Ivara Esu, The Speaker Of Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, House of Assembly members and others.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements. UNICROSS ACTING VC EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER DAMAGE OF UNIVERSITY STUCTURES AFTER RAINSTORM IN CALABAR
