The flag off was conveyed at Primary Health Care, Big Qua Town, Calabar, today 14th day of December 2021.

Speaking after the event, Dr. Betta Edu lauded His Excellency Prof. Ben Ayade and His beloved wife Dr. Linda Ayade for supporting the scheme and their determination for quality, affordable, and accessible health care services through the state health insurance.

Edu maintained that the most important thing is that the policy would help Crossriverians to reduce out-of-pocket expenditures and address issues of access when people don't have access to quality health care services.

" The take-off point of the scheme is the primary health care facilities in Cross River State after which they can be referred to the secondary facility.

Commissioner noted that over 18 thousand persons have registered and payments made for a year and several other persons have enrolled. Completion of payments is coming up soon.

Interesting to note that because of the uniqueness of the scheme, Commissioner added that the University of Cross River and other colleges of health in the state are keying into it.

She concluded by urging all Crossriverians to come out, get registered and begin to enjoy the care after 90 days of registration.

On her part, The Director of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong noted that the event was to activate health care services, as the promise was made to crossriverians to deliver on the social health insurance scheme as well as Basic Health Care Provision Fund.

" to access health care free of charge, you are expected to register with 1000 naira, and we have people that can access the services for free, the vulnerable, children under 5 years, and the elderly. Those working are to pay,  is like providing a shoulder for the vulnerable. Even if you are going to access for free, you have to register, and is a window of 90 days".. Ekpenyong.

You are protected from financial hardship while accessing quality and affordable health care.
