Unical's historic visit to the Emir of Kano

 



The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has led the Pro-Chancellor, Management Staff and Council Members of the institution on a historic visit to the Chancellor of the University of Calabar, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, in the ancient city of Kano.


The visit by the team from UNICAL was to familiarise the institution with the palace and to also seek the blessings and support of the Royal Father in the administration of the institution.


The team from UNICAL were warmly received in the palace and accorded with royal reception from the first class Traditional Ruler.


While on the visit, the Emir led the team from UNICAL to a historic tour round the city in a colourful sight with palace guards. Historical sites were visited, including a unique visit to the VC of Bayero University, Kano.


The visit was in line with the VC's desire and commitment to work with all critical stakeholders and relevant personalities on the 'project unical'.


In his remarks, the Emir congratulated Prof. Obi for emerging as the 11th VC of the institution, assuring her and the management of UNICAL of his support, advise and contributions that will move the University forward.


UNICAL is an institution that has a powerful Royal Father as a Chancellor and a Retired Army General, who was the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Staff as the Pro-Chancellor.


With this heavy weight team on board, an erudite Professor of Special Needs Education and a scholar of high intellectual capacity, a powerful Royal Father and a foremost retired military General who served the Nigerian Army at its climax, the University is headed for greater exploits with Prof. Obi at helm of the affairs.


High point of the visit to the Royal Father was the presentation of an award of excellence to the first female VC of UNICAL, the Czar of Quality University Education, Prof. Florence Obi.
