2023: Next Governor Must come from the South, Southern Stakeholders Insist


 


Stakeholders of the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State at Diamond Hall, Transcorp Hotels, Calabar unwavering agreed that the next governor should come from the southern senatorial District in 2023.


The demand was part of the communique read by Sen. Florence Ita-Giwa at the conference.



Ita-Giwa used the conference to thank the governor for his purposeful governance which he has undoubtedly provided and is still providing, and the many achievements which he has recorded especially in his attempt to decouple Cross River State from over-dependence on federally allocation revenue. 



"Recently the state has witnessed negative allocation from FAAC, despite this, the governor Is still able to pay salaries and carry out other developmental initiatives.


"Undoubtedly, the many industries which the governor is building is a deliberate attempt to put out state on a path of prosperity.


" We thus, express our solidarity with the governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for his total and unwavering commitment to the return of power to the southern senatorial District come 2023.


"The stakeholders reiterate that the governor remains the leader of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state and indeed the south-south region and has the right and authority to give direction to the party in the state. We thank the governor for this direction which he has provided and we stand with him firmly on this.


" Rising from the Press Conference the stakeholders noted that no senatorial District can on its own make a governor, that is why there are committed Io ensuring that the work harmoniously with the central and northern senatorial Districts in achieving the desired power to return to the Southern Senatorial District come 2023. 


The stakeholders stated that they wish for the 3 senatorial districts to know that our demand for power to return to the Southern Senatorial District is equitable,  justifiable, fair, and is the proper thing to happen at this time.


"Stakeholders further call on all well-meaning Cross Riverians to rise in support of power rotation and return of power to the southern senatorial District come May 29th, 2023.


" they concluded that all Cross Riverians and people of goodwill and friends of Cross River State should join hands with the southern senatorial District to achieve the return of power to the south as one good turn they say deserves another.


Earlier the Chairman of the Conference Etiyin Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong OON noted that the conference is very important because is the reflection of the entire people in the South.


He acknowledged that they have a governor who has identified with the south, His Excellency sen. Ben Ayade.


Ekpenyong added that they have been struggling to try to put themselves together but they have a governor who had been consistent right from 2015 when he took over as governor of the State.


"He had made it very clear that he (Ayade) will return power to South at the end of his regime.


" Again 2018, publicly, he also made a statement that power must return to the South and recently we also have witnessed that he emphasis that power will return to the south.


" To me, the Governor had been consistent, and he had identified with the South.


And He concludes by thanking the Governor for keeping to his words, and for assuring them that power must return to the south.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements. UNICROSS ACTING VC EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER DAMAGE OF UNIVERSITY STUCTURES AFTER RAINSTORM IN CALABAR
