2023 PRESIDENCY: WHY OSINBAJO IS THE BEST FOR NIGERIA

By Kingsley Agim

A leader, they say, is not just he who pontificates worthless ethical shibboleths, but he who, by luculent manifestation, lives and acts in accordance with precepts at all times.

Going by the above, our dear country falls short of leaders who perfectly fit such definition. We have somewhat not-so-good leaders, and some not-so-bad ones too.

Interestingly, as we draw closer to 2023, which seems an important political year for Nigerians that would herald a change of barton in leadership across the country, one leader who has strikingly impressed Nigerians with his leadership qualities has been our present Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Himself, a scholar of remarkable learnedness, the Vice President has discharged his duties as the number two citizen of Nigeria with utmost loyalty, diligence and competence to the admiration of Nigerians, both in government and the governed. His characteristics have remained a rarity among the pantheons of Nigerian leaders.

Blessed with a combination of Nelson Mandela’s stoicism and Barrack Obama’s sagacity, Prof. Osinbajo has asserted himself as a credible support base to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s daunting efforts of changing the fortunes of the country. A feat they have achieved with great aplomb.

Another endearing phenomenon about the Vice President is his admirable knowledge of governance and public administration which equipped him creditably well in the discharge of the onerous responsibility of governance. Something he has done knowledgeably well.

Prof. Osinbajo’s life, in a nutshell, has been one that has been driven by a penchant for service and public accountability. In a nation like ours, with ethnic, cultural, socio-political and religious peculiarities, we need a tolerant personality like Osinbajo, whose mantra of a united, prosperous Nigeria, has remained inviolable.

As we continue to search for  who becomes Nigeria’s next president, we must realize, like Kenneth Blanchard puts it, that: “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.” Let us stick with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to continue with the improvement of the Nigeria project.
