Yala LG Chair 2023: Behold Bishop Mathew Okata as APC Candidate

 




Bishop Mathew Emmanuel Okata (JP) is one of the aspirants seeking to clinch All Progressives Congress ticket for the chairmanship position in Yala Local Government Area. 


His compelling aspiration is tied to the fact that he is a unique vessel with uncommon valour, humility, distinction and one committed to the service of God and humanity. Indeed, he is a community mobiliser, facilitator of development; refuge to destitute, an icon of leadership and a patriotic individual who is ready to give Yala Local Government a different experience through meticulous service. 



With a rich profile, Bishop Mathew Emmanuel Okata (JP) from Lemma-Wanogana in Wanikade ward recently expressed desire to vie for Yala Local Government Council Chairmanship position in the presence of ward executives and stakeholders alike.


 Being a contender of the All Progressives Congress ticket, he can be described as a messenger whose ears are wide open to understand the thrust between  administration and his people. 


Born on 1st January, 1955, he is a former Vice President of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria.He attended St. John’s Primary School, Wanikade, North Ukelle, Yala LGA in 1971 and proceeded to Jonathan Ekong Memorial Lutheran Seminary where he was trained as an evangelist between 1977 – 1979.


 The quest for more knowledge jolted him to the Evangelical Missionary Institute, Jos, Plateau State in 1988-1989 where he was trained in Cross Cultural Communication and Church Planting. In addition to his evangelical training, the proponent of “Service to God and Humanity” also has a West African School Certificate Examination in his kitty.


His quest for higher education saw the humble servant leader to Rivers State University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with management as a specialty in 2008. 



Armed with requisite international exposure, Bishop Mathew Okata (JP) has visited Turkey, Israel, France, Egypt, Germany and several African countries. The humble personality hopes to bring his engagements from this exposure to bear in the administration of Yala Local Government Area.



Advancing peace-building, rural development in line with people’s yearnings and aspirations. He believes this is a unique motivation behind his divine mandate as contender for APC ticket in the forthcoming primary election to determine the flag bearer.


Evidently, the catalyst for development driven mobilization has served in several leadership positions within the church and secular field and has continued to champion innovative ideas for growth in his sphere of influence. 




The Former National Vice President of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria had served as Chairman Lutheran Hospital Management Board, Chairman Asset Recovery Committee, Chairman National Ministerial Conference of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Chairman Assignment and Promotion Committee of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Chairman Disciplinary Committee, Vice Chairman Christian Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter and Pioneer Bishop Cross River South Diocese of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria.


 Similarly, he served as Member, Lutheran University Implementation Committee, Member Finance Committee and a former writer and speaker; Lutheran Quarter Hour on Cross River Broadcasting Corporation.



The All Progressives Congress hopeful for Yala Local Government Council balances his evangelistic practice with service oriented grassroots connection, community service having offered his experience as Member Peace and Reconciliation Committee in Ukelle, Treasurer, Wanikade Market Executive, Member Community Health Committee, lead adviser in quelling internal crisis within Wanikade ward among other community engagements.



Bishop Mathew Okata (JP)  is happily married with four children. He is promising a new deal for Yala Local Government such that generates substantial leadership that would be steep, inclusive and felt across the entire wards in the council.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements.
