Ranking: UNICROSS Alumni Hails Management, Demands More Funding For Varsity

University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association has hailed the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Augustine Angba and his management team for putting the institution in a global map with its recent ranking as one of the best in Nigeria and Africa.
The association, in a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Dr. Inyali Peter, appealed to the State government to reward the height attained by increasing funding for the University.
Recall that one of the global most credible ranking bodies, the Time Education Ranking, in its latest ranking realised last week, placed UNICROSS as the seventh best University in Nigeria and 37th in Africa.
Reacting to the development, the alumni said that, "the National President of our great association, Comrade Eyam Abeng, on behalf of the entire alumni of UNICROSS, heartily congratulates the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Angba, his management team, staff and students for putting the University in a global map as the 7th best in Nigeria and 37th in Africa.
This development is a testament to what we've always said about the University. Our alma matter has produced people who are doing exceptionally in every sector of our economy and beyond. We've products who have gone abroad for further studies and have returned in flying colours. So, for us, we're not surprised by this ranking because it's a reflection of what we've always known ".
The statement further appealed that "there's a saying that the reward for a job well done is more work therefore, while we charge the management to keep up the good work, we want to appeal to the new administration led by our dear Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu to urgently review the funding mechanism for the University with a view to increasing the insufficient monthly subvention to something that reflect current economic realities.
If the University could achieve this height despite the perennial issues of poor funding which is making it even difficult for management to pay salaries, when properly funded, there's guarantee that more good news will come out. We believe that if we can be one of the best in Nigeria, we can definitely become one of the best in world in no distant time".
Continuing, the association also lauded the management for securing National Universities Commission (NUC) approval for the commencement of seventy new programmes.
