False Reports from The Pledge News: Hon. Cyril James Omini Denies Claims of Being Governor's Choice for Speaker

Dear Editor,

I am writing to bring to your attention a recent publication on your blog that contains false and defamatory statements about Hon. Cyril James Omini, the esteemed member representing Yakurr 1 Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

The article titled "I Am The Governor’s Choice To Succeed Former Speaker Ayambem, Hon CY Declares" alleges that Hon. Cyril James Omini declared himself the anointed person by Governor Bassey Otu to take over as the Speaker after the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem. I would like to categorically state that these statements are entirely fictitious and have no basis in truth.

Hon. Cyril James Omini has never made any such declarations. The claim that he received instructions from Governor Otu and that other members of the House complied with these instructions is a fabrication aiming to slander his reputation.

Hon. Cyril James Omini is a man of integrity, committed to serving his constituents faithfully and upholding the principles of our democracy. Regrettably, your blog has chosen to propagate false information without verifying its accuracy.

I kindly request that you retract the defamatory statements made in the article immediately and issue a public correction and apology to rectify the damage caused to Hon. Cyril's reputation.

In your future endeavors, we strongly urge you to adhere to ethical journalism standards by verifying information thoroughly before publishing. Publishing false reports not only harms the reputation of individuals but also undermines the trust the public places in your publication.

Please confirm in writing that you will be taking swift action to correct this unfortunate situation. Failure to do so will leave us with no choice but to seek legal redress for the damage caused.

We look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this matter.

Signed:

Philip Edward Ikpi,

Media Aide to Hon. Cyril James Omini.
