Marginalization of Yakurr 2 in State Appointments Mirrors Cross River’s Federal Experience

Much like His Excellency, Senator Tinubu, has overlooked Cross River State in his allocation of appointments within the Nation, the Yakurr 2 constituency in Central Cross River is experiencing similar neglect under Senator Bassey Otu's administration.

During the campaigns prominent figures in Central Cross River attempted to undermine Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, aiming to portray him as lacking substantial support within Central. Despite these efforts, Senator Williams proved his resilience by personally funding campaigns to bolster His Excellency's presence in both Central Cross River and Yakurr 2.

However, the current state appointments reveal a glaring oversight, with the people of Yakurr 2 receiving little to no representation. Despite their dissatisfaction, the people remain silent, possibly out of fear of alienating the Governor or his close associates.

This scenario parallels the grievances of the APC in Cross River State, which feels marginalized at the federal level despite their significant contributions to establishing Cross River as an APC stronghold. Similarly, Yakurr 2 faces neglect after their electoral efforts.

There is an urgent call for President Tinubu to reassess and rectify his recent appointment decisions, ensuring they align more closely with the inclusive approach demonstrated by His Excellency Buhari. Similarly, it is imperative for Senator Otu to address the concerns of Yakurr 2 and other overlooked constituencies within the state.

Yakurr 2's current plight echoes the broader discontent within Cross River over federal appointments. As Inyali Peter, Ph.D., has noted, the APC at both state and federal levels could learn from the PDP's strategy of ensuring balance, justice, harmony, and unity in their appointments.

My concern remains whether the APC's primary goal was merely to secure Cross River as an APC state, only to subsequently deny the State it deserved federal representation.

The people are vigilant, and the calls for justice and fair representation grow louder.
