GWR: Awade from Cross River Aims for 120-Hour Theatrethon

 

Awade Jacob Awade, a Theatre and Media Studies graduate from the University of Calabar, is officially attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual theatre performance, aiming for 120 hours.

The event started on March 28, 2025, at 9:30 PM at Romaan Lounge in Calabar and will run until April 1, 2025.

In July 1987, Adrian Hilton from the UK set the record for the longest solo theatre marathon at 110 hours and 46 minutes.

Awade Jacob Awade from Obanliku LGA, Cross River state,  Known by his stage name 'Awaade of Lagos', Awade is determined to create a new record, emphasizing that his effort extends beyond mere recognition; it is a vital initiative for social change.

During the five-day event, Awaade will embody all characters in three plays by notable playwrights. 

The performances will include "The Prisoner" by Chris Nwamao, "Who is Afraid of Solarin" by Femo Osofisan, and "Death and the King's Horseman" by Wole Soyinka.

Awade will illustrate the harsh realities of prison life as depicted by Nwamao, aiming to emphasize the significance of collective education for fostering substantial societal change and progress.

Osofisan’s work tackles pressing societal issues like corruption, bribery, fraud, and embezzlement, calling attention to the urgent need for social reform. In contrast, Soyinka's 'Death And The King's Horseman' delves into the importance of tradition in African culture.

He is appealing for support from fellow Nigerians who have consistently encouraged him, firmly believing that with determination, anything is achievable.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements.
