The University of Calabar (UNICAL) celebrated excellence at its 37th Convocation Ceremony, marking a remarkable academic milestone for Delight Ohen, who graduated with distinction. She emerged as the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Agricultural Economics with an impressive CGPA of 4.16. This achievement is not just a personal triumph but a testament to hard work, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Prof. Susana Ohen, 28 years ago, walked this same path in the same department, standing tall as the best graduating student of her time. That moment was a defining one—one that shaped her academic and professional trajectory, proving that dedication and diligence yield success.

Now, Delight Ohen, at just 22 years old, has not only followed in her mother’s footsteps but has elevated the achievement to an even greater dimension. For Prof. Ohen, witnessing her daughter replicate this feat fills her with immense pride and gratitude. It serves as a reminder that excellence is never accidental; it is the product of unwavering commitment, intellectual discipline, and an unrelenting drive to succeed.

Delight Ohen’s choice of career is no coincidence—it is deeply rooted in passion and love for agriculture. She firmly believes in the power of agriculture to drive economic transformation, ensure food security, and create sustainable livelihoods. To her, Agricultural Economics is more than just a discipline; it is a calling and a tool for impact.

She has drawn great inspiration from her mother and role model, Prof. Susana Ohen, who currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. Watching her mother’s journey, witnessing her dedication and the profound impact she has made in the field, Delight was inspired to follow the same path. Determined to make an even greater mark, she has embraced the challenges and opportunities that come with the field of agriculture and economics.

Delight Ohen’s achievement is more than a personal victory—it is an inspiration to younger students, a motivation to peers, and a beacon of hope for those striving for academic excellence. She has demonstrated that with focus, consistency, and the right attitude, greatness is within reach.

As she embarks on the next phase of her journey, our prayers and best wishes go with her. May she find clarity of purpose, doors of opportunity, and a future filled with boundless success. May her path be illuminated with wisdom, and may she soar to even greater heights in her chosen field.

Reflecting on her journey, Delight expressed her gratitude, excitement, and fulfilment, saying: "I feel fulfilled, excited, and grateful to God."

Her mother, Prof. Susana Ohen, admitted that while she had confidence in her daughter’s abilities, she was initially apprehensive about Delight studying in her own department:

"I had some fears when she decided to study this course, especially since it is my place of work. But I also had confidence that she always puts in her best in all she does. I wasn’t actually expecting her to be the best graduating student—I knew she would be among the best, but this was a pleasant surprise."

Delight Ohen’s outstanding academic performance did not go unnoticed, as she received several prestigious prizes for her exceptional achievement:
