Cross River Commissioners Unanimously Endorse Governor Bassey Otu, Deputy Peter Odey, President Tinubu for Second Term

The College of Commissioners in Cross River State has officially endorsed the State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, for a second term in office. The collective endorsement was made during a strategic meeting held at the Ministry of Women Affairs headquarters in Calabar.

The endorsement was led by Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, Commissioner for Information, with the event anchored by Dr. Henry Ayuk, Commissioner for Health, who emphasized that the administration's achievements in health, education, infrastructure, and people-centred development made a second term not just desirable, but necessary.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Lawrencia Ita, Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions, noted, “We’ve witnessed the tremendous work His Excellency has done in education, health, and people's welfare, including pensions and gratuities. Cross River State deserves such a governor for eight years.”

From the Central Senatorial District, Hon. Edema Irom, Commissioner for Women Affairs, pointed to improved road networks and agricultural access as major gains under the Otu-led government. “Central now has motorable roads leading to farmlands and multiple empowerment programs benefiting rural dwellers,” she said.

In further support, Dr. Stephen Odey, Commissioner for Education and representative for the Northern Senatorial District, highlighted major milestones, including the establishment of a brand-new university within two years and the successful registration of over 20,000 students for WAEC.

“Every project that has been approved, we’ve been part of it,” Odey noted.
“We are the right people to tell the world what the Governor has done. The people of Yache are enjoying tarred roads for the first time. This endorsement is our collective statement of truth.”

He also declared the Commissioners’ full backing for the continuation of the current administration at the federal level: “We hereby endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term.”

Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham, Commissioner for Transportation, formally moved the motion for the dual endorsement of the federal and state leaderships. “If you ask me, I’ll say 2027 should be no experiment. On this note, I move the motion for the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Bassey Otu, and Deputy Governor Peter Odey for second terms.”
The motion was unanimously seconded by Dr. Justin Beshel, Commissioner for Science and Technology.
