Yakurr Council Celebrates Children’s Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Child Welfare

 


The Yakurr Local Government Area joined the rest of the nation in commemorating the 2025 Children’s Day celebration on May 27th, with a vibrant event held at the Mkpani Pavilion. The Chairman of Yakurr LGA, Hon. Yibala Igri, ably represented Hon. Sampson Ijo Obol, Secretary of Council, and delivered a heartfelt message to mark the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Igri expressed joy and hope, emphasizing the significance of the day as a time to celebrate the dreams, aspirations, and inherent potential of every child.

“May 27th holds a special place in our hearts as we honor the spirit, dreams, and potentials of our children. They are not just our future; they are our present and our greatest treasure,” he said.

Hon. Igri reiterated the council’s unwavering commitment to creating an enabling environment for children to thrive. He noted that the administration has implemented several child-centered initiatives, including educational scholarships and improved healthcare services, to ensure that no child is left behind in Yakurr.

“As the Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, it is both a privilege and a responsibility to address you today. Our children are the leaders of tomorrow and the custodians of our values. Their laughter and curiosity inspire us to work harder every day,” he stated.

While celebrating achievements, the Chairman also acknowledged existing challenges facing children, particularly in the areas of education and social equity. He called for collective responsibility from parents, educators, and community leaders to provide safe, supportive environments where children can grow and succeed.

“Let today be a reminder that every child in Yakurr deserves to dream big and to have the support they need to turn those dreams into reality,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Igri extended warm congratulations to all the children being celebrated, urging them to believe in themselves and embrace the limitless possibilities of their future.

“You are loved, you are valued, and you matter. Always remember, you are the promise of a better tomorrow,” he concluded.
