Senator Williams Joins in Celebrating Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong’s 10 Years of Legislative Service

 


Prominent leaders, lawmakers, and scholars gathered in Calabar yesterday the 10th of June 2025 for the inaugural Hilary Bisong Colloquium, a distinguished event organized to honour Rt. Hon. Hilary Ekpang Bisong for a decade of dedicated service in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Among the dignitaries present was Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, who expressed his admiration for Rt. Hon. Bisong’s legislative accomplishments and active contribution to constitutional democracy in Nigeria. Themed “Lawmaking and Constitutional Democracy: The Nigerian Experience,” the event offered more than just a celebration—it served as a platform for deep, strategic discourse on strengthening democratic institutions and legislative governance.

Senator Williams participated in a high-level panel discussion alongside a roster of respected figures, including Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, Prof. Pauline Ekuri, Prof. Okom (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar), and Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo. The panel delved into topics such as enhancing the quality of lawmaking, promoting civic engagement, and safeguarding democratic values in Nigeria’s evolving political climate.

Governor Bassey Otu, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, lauded Rt. Hon. Bisong’s legislative impact, particularly his sponsorship of eight bills that have been passed and signed into law. The Governor's message reflected the significance of Rt. Hon. Bisong’s work and its positive ripple effect across the state.

In his remarks, Senator Williams described the occasion as a proud moment, stating:

"This colloquium reflects not only the outstanding career of Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong but also the growing culture of dialogue and reflection within our legislative institutions. His record speaks volumes, and I am proud to call him a brother and colleague."

The event concluded with renewed calls for collaboration, innovation in legislative processes, and commitment to democratic principles that genuinely reflect the will of the people.

Engr. Jerome Egbe Visits NSCDC Command for Strategic Partnership on Public Utilities

  The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Utilities, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe, KSM, today, October 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River Command, Mr. Brown Charles, in Calabar.  The visit centered on establishing a strategic partnership to protect and secure public utilities across the state from vandals and criminal elements. UNICROSS ACTING VC EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER DAMAGE OF UNIVERSITY STUCTURES AFTER RAINSTORM IN CALABAR
