The pages of history of our Democracy cannot be complete without the contributions of individuals, who as patriots, continue to beam their light in changing socio-political outcomes.
Every era has its peculiar issues and challenges, so statesmen are valued by their unrelenting contributions in shaping the society.
A deep dive into Orok Duke's political involvement, spans several pages of history and each era, he has acted with vigor, vivacity and sagacity.
His political career spans decades of active politicking with a radical view of life; believing in the ability of any man to become something through Providence and deliberate positioning. He was elected member of the Cross River State House of Assembly from 1992-1993 to represent Calabar South 1 and became Deputy Speaker.
Following the annulment of the 1993 June 12 presidential elections and the crises that followed, Orok was incarcerated, Humiliated and detained severally along with MKO Abiola(the acclaimed winner of the election); Dr Matthew Ojong and Comrade Akpet Nyambi (all of blessed memory).
Between 1994-1996, Orok Duke was appointed Special Adviser to the Military Administrator (SAMA) on Information and Culture. He served with verve and professionalism- establishing the CRBC and winning the Gold Gong for CRS in NAFEST,Calabar, 1994. He went on to serve as State Legislator, representingCalabar for 4 Terms(16years)
Successive years that followed, witnessed accelerated progression into national politics when in he was nominated Delegate to represent the Niger Delta region at the 2014 National Conference (the well conceived national CONFAB)in Abuja under the Goodluck Jonathan's administration.
Aside numerous national assignments executed at one time or the other, Orok was Commissioner/Chairman of the Cross River state Sports Commission.
Currently, he is the state's representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and is playing key role as leader of his party, the APC.
On this day of Democracy Day, such a hero is worth mentioning for his sacrifice and lofty contributions.
